An architect-turned-restaurateur isn’t something you hear of every day. Nonetheless, that’s what Matthew Kragh is: the guy behind a lot of the gorgeous, white, old Florida-style homes that dot many streets in downtown Naples. He recently turned his creative forces toward a new venture—one where aesthetics still play a role, and so does really tasty food.
It’s called Timeless – An MHK Eatery, and it’s opening Monday, Aug. 7, with the kind of contemporary, seasonally driven fare that’s sure to make it a fast favorite on the Naples dining scene. Chef David Nelson (formerly of Truluck’s and Avenue5) has created a menu that’s a little bit of everything: It’s a breakfast, lunch and dinner spot, with a wine, beer and pizza lounge, all at once. Grab your coffee on the way to work, then stop in for a bite and a glass of wine on the way home.
The space is cleverly divided into two main sections: one that’s more of a traditional restaurant setting, the other that’s more like a living room where you’ll want to post up and stay a while. In the middle, pull up to the bar and watch the chefs do their thing; it’s an open-kitchen concept, so you can see where it all happens, including the coal-fired pizza oven (which also produces some pretty tasty coal-fired breakfast bagels in the morning). There’s a cute outdoor bar and courtyard dining area, as well.
My favorite pizza was the Funghi, with creamed leeks, olive oil- and garlic-braised mushrooms, gruyere and truffled arugula. The crowd favorite thus far seems to be the PB&J (pineapple, bacon and jalapeño, that is), and I can’t wait to try the White Clam pizza with clams, herbs, lemon, fresh garlic and asiago. Check out the full menu here.
The lounge area is the perfect spot to hang with friends, watch some sports (hey, football’s starting soon!), play a round of tic-tac-toe or brush up on your wine IQ with the biggest coffee table book ever. (Really, it’s huge.)
One length of the restaurant is entirely floor-to-ceiling windows, which makes for a bright, airy atmosphere (and good lighting for pics 😉). Pro tip: If you’re a fan of rosé, try a glass of the Pamplemousse for a semi-sweet hint of grapefruit.
