Fashion, art and history come together in Artis—Naples’ newest exhibition, Yves Saint Laurent + Halston: Fashioning the ’70s. It’s the first of its kind to juxtapose the two fashion designers, whose careers spanned from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, but who are best known for defining the sexy, glam aesthetic of the ’70s.
“At one end of the spectrum was Saint Laurent’s broad range of creativity, which encompassed his brilliant use of color, drama and fantasy. At the other end was Halston’s mastery of modernism and minimalism. This exhibition traces their parallel developments and highlights the distinctive creations unique to each designer.”
The approximately 80 ensembles and 20 accessories on display were drawn from The Museum at FIT’s extensive permanent collection. Short of hopping on a plane to New York City, it’s the best opportunity to immerse yourself in a sartorial revolution led by two of the most renowned designers in modern history.
