1 Diving the USS Mohawk
Take advantage of the warm Gulf water and make this the month you dive the USS Mohawk wreck. What was, in 1934, assigned patrol and general icebreaking duties on the Hudson and Delaware Rivers has now been moved to a decidedly more pleasant climate 28 nautical miles off the coast of Captiva. The Coast Guard cutter now has the honorable duty of acting as a Veteran’s Memorial artificial reef—and really cool diving destination. Find more information and dive charter details online.
2 TNN Book Club
ICYMI: We’re starting our very own Book Club! Our first meeting is Sept. 15 from 6-7 p.m. at Ridgway’s, where we’ll be discussing The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close. It’s not too late to join in; order your book here, then RSVP on Facebook or by emailing email@example.com. Can’t make it to this one? No worries—this is a monthly thing. Click on the Book Club tab in the top menu bar for all the details.
3 Pineapple salsa
Ready or not, football season is upon us—and so are the tailgate parties. Whip up this amazing pineapple salsa, and your friends and fam will be doing their own touchdown dances. Try it with tortilla chips, tacos, chicken or fish.
4 TripIt app
Organizational freaks, meet your new best friend. TripIt will make your next vacation or work trip a cinch by compiling hotel, flight and rental car confirmations, dinner reservations, etc. all into a single master itinerary. Plus, you can access it without being connected to the Internet, so spotty Wi-Fi = no longer an issue.
5 Calligraphy workshop
Pinterest has nothing on you. Learn to calligraph with the best of them at the Naples Art Association‘s Calligraphy Workshop, where you’ll practice putting your pen together, creating pen strokes that make up various letterforms and writing the alphabet. The group meets on Sept. 21 and 28, from 1-4 p.m.; participants must sign up for both sessions. The cost is $150 per person (supplies included). Sign up online.
See five things we tried in February, March, April, May, June, July and August 2016, too!
