There are some days when nothing but tacos will do. Sometimes, it goes further than that—only fish tacos will do, or only tacos with a vat of queso on the side will do. We’ve tried just about every kind of taco you can find in Southwest Florida, and we’re sharing our favorites to satisfy every type of craving.
When only no-frills, authentic tacos will do
We’re not even entirely sure we want to share this information lest it makes it even harder for us to find a table. During weekday lunch, they’re filled with either guys in suits or those covered in grass and paint—a sure sign of a universally great spot. Tucked away in a tiny building on Bayshore Drive, you could almost pass Taqueria San Julian by, if not for the tacos—they’re authentic, fantastic and only $1.50 each.

When only health-conscious, plant-based tacos will do
Vegans, you’re in luck—Cider Press Café offers The Three Amigos: dehydrated corn tortillas with a walnut and sweet potato picadillo topped with cabbage, guac, pico de gallo, poblano cream and pickled jalapeños, all in one seriously satisfying dish. Who needs meat?

When only tacos served with margaritas in Mason jars will do
There’s a taco for all tastes here, including the Cheeseburger Taco, spicy Buffalo Taco and sweet pulled pork Backyard Taco. Happy hour is great. Happy hour with tacos? BETTER. From 3-6 p.m. (and again from 11 p.m. to close on Fridays and Saturdays), Masa serves up two gourmet tacos for $6 (choose from asada or tinga) and $5 margaritas. If you’re extra hungry, don’t skip the calamari with black rice and salsa verde—one of the best apps around.

The Local is one of those places where you can try everything on the menu and love it all. The snapper ceviche tacos are no exception; they’re served with Serrano peppers, avocado, red onion and cilantro for a truly fresh, Floridian take on tacos.
