With all the incredible, unique restaurants in Southwest Florida, it’s rare to find us at a chain. Bonefish Grill, however, is the exception, as the menu is always fresh, rotates seasonally and offers healthy options—all of which make it feel remarkably un-chainlike.
We recently headed to the Fort Myers location for an early dinner to check out the renovations it underwent earlier this summer. We’d been there for brunch before, but the inside has been totally transformed. Gone are the traditional dark wood bar tables, replaced with a contemporary design, sleek lighting, an architectural wine tower that also serves as a room divider and a roomier bar area.
We arrived a bit early, so we headed to the bar for drinks—a Corona for me, Moscow mule for Jesse, which was slushy and topped with candied ginger. Super refreshing!
We moved over to the dining room side for dinner, where we ordered the saucy shrimp appetizer, a recommendation from our server, Brecken, which did not disappoint: sautéed shrimp in a lime tomato garlic sauce with Kalamata olives and Feta cheese. It’s called a guest favorite for a reason.
I’m not usually a cocktail type of girl, but anything with watermelon is a must try. The Fresh Watermelon Icicle Aphrodisiac Martini features hand-muddled watermelon, fresh sour, a housemade cucumber vodka infusion and watermelon ice cubes and is really refreshing and easy to drink—almost dangerously so.
Ninety-nine percent of the time, I will order Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos at Bonefish. This was one of those times. Jesse opted for the misoyaki Chilean sea bass, which is grilled over oak, then topped with misoyaki marinade and pickled ginger relish on a bed of sauteed spinach, mushrooms and jasmine rice. There was not so much as a single mushroom left on the plate when he was finished.
And in the spirit of enjoying the last few weeks of summer before our beloved summer dining specials (find more great local deals here) begin to disappear, here’s another good one for you: Bonefish is now offering Hooked on Tuesday, a three-course dinner menu available every Tuesday starting at just $14.90—the perfect early-week date night!
