Stacey with her jewelry line’s namesake, terriers Buddy and Dash

Arm parties everywhere are a bit more colorful thanks to Stacey Summers, founder of the handmade jewelry line Buddy & Dash. The handmade wire and gemstone bangles—aptly named after cities throughout Florida, like The Naples and The Winter Park—are perfect for stacking, and, with so colors and textures to choose from, they go with just about anything. (Good luck narrowing it down to one or two—you’ll want a bunch.) The collection recently expanded to include beaded bracelets, necklaces and earrings, as well, which she sells online in her Etsy shop and at the farmers market at the Shoppes at Vanderbilt on Saturday mornings.

Here, she shares her take on Naples style, advice for other young entrepreneurs and the adorable inspiration behind the Buddy & Dash name.

Plus, read on to find out how you can win a stack of Buddy & Dash bangles!

What led you to start a jewelry line?
Jewelry is something I’ve always loved creating. My aunt really fostered my love for jewelry and the creative process that goes along with it at a young age. She started her own jewelry line, and when I was younger, we would sit for hours together and make jewelry. Throughout the years, I’ve created many pieces for myself—mostly because I have the tiniest wrists and can never find bracelets that fit me—and my friends would ask me to make them items, as well. Thus, Buddy & Dash was born. The company is named after my two Humane Society Naples rescue terriers. (At least, we’d like to think they are terriers.) They are such characters, and they love to sit and “help” me with the jewelry-making process, which usually involves them running away with my beading wire!

How would you describe the “Buddy & Dash” girl?
A Buddy & Dash girl is her own person. She is confident in her own skin, a colorful character, and knows that jewelry is for every occasion.

What’s your idea of Naples style?
Naples style is pretty darn fabulous. It’s classic and elegant with a twist—Sperrys and Chanel with bold color mixed in. It’s Florida, so why not wear some color with the classics?

Tell us a bit about your full-time job.
When I’m not working on Buddy & Dash, you can find me at Summerfields Fine Furnishings, Home Accessories & Antiques in Naples, our family business, which is also a creative outlet for me. I curate and purchase merchandise with my mother, Shari Summers, ASID. It’s quite colorful, just like the Buddy & Dash brand.

What inspires you?
Creatively, anything inspires me, from fabrics at our design firm to colors in the garden to the natural beauty of Naples. Inspiration, for me, is something I just happen upon that gets my creative juices flowing.

If you could trade lives with anyone for a day, who would it be?
I’d trade lives with the CEO of a major jewelry or women’s boutique accessories line, like Kay Stanley of Spartina 449 or Kendra Scott of Kendra Scott Design. To gain manufacturing knowledge and to learn the world of owning and running a wholesale company would be invaluable.

What advice do you have for other young entrepreneurs?
Get out there and do it. You’ve got to start somewhere, even if it’s just on a small scale! Do not be afraid to ask for help—you are going to need it.

Where can we find you in Naples on the weekends?
On Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can find me at the Shoppes at Vanderbilt farmers market (2355 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples) at our first annual pop-up shop with Stitch Perfect Monogramming & Crafts. Buddy and Dash (the dogs) do make appearances every so often. On Sundays, you can usually find me out in The Ten Thousand Islands, fishing!
