It’s so hard to find a good hair bow these days.
For Devon Alana, it was the motivation she needed to start making her own—and it wasn’t long after that the then-University of Florida health sciences major found herself taking requests from other students with the same dilemma, crafting monogrammed bows and headbands in her spare time and selling them for sorority events and football games.
That creative streak led to the development of a fashion blog, Devon Alana Design, which initially focused on Devon’s penchant for DIY projects, from home decor to fashion, and has since evolved to chronicle her personal, preppy-with-an-edge style. Now, the Naples native logs between five and six blog posts a week (which she photographs herself with a remote control).
In between, she’s designing and growing her own line of items, including headbands, America-themed tank tops and coffee mugs, which she sells in her Etsy shop, She Sells by the Sea. And when she can’t find just what she’s shopping for, she makes it herself—including cocktail dresses that rival those found on any department store ready-to-wear rack. “I love anything handmade and special,” she says. “Usually I see something I personally want and then create it.”
Here, she shares her go-to style favorites, what inspires her and the next trip she can’t wait to take.
